This post is to solidify a memory that I can store away and relive on those gloomy days when it seems everyone on earth is unhappy. We had an experience a few weeks ago I won't soon forget. As Ben is in graduate school, we have not had dental insurance for three years and counting. In other words our motto throughout these last years, "brush your teeth and hope for the best." Well, the best was not to be had, and we recently noticed mammoth cavities in our mouths and knew we'd better figure out a way to fork over the dough. Because dental care is somewhat cheaper in his rural Idaho hometown, we made appointments with a dentist there, a dentist Ben had never met.
We were not looking forward to the hundreds of dollars we knew we were going to spend on our cavities and exams, but knew it had to be done. We did indeed have two cavities each, and they were filled with some laughter from us as we tried to talk to each other over the divider with numb cheeks and tongues. When we tried to pay what would have been hundreds of dollars, the doctor informed us that the visit was free! FREE!!!! ABSOLUTELY FREE!!! He said he knew what it was like to attend graduate school with a family, so our exam, x-rays, and fillings were free. This was the first time we had ever met this man and he still extended such generosity. Either that or he just felt really really sorry for us. I can't tell you what this meant to us. Thank you, thank you, Dr. Hammond.

Jaime,
I just stumbled across your blog and wanted to say hello. After such a long time, its great to see you and your family, and get a little update on what you have been up to. Alicia emailed me one link, and after a few minutes of blogstalking, I found a bunch of old friends (I guess its going on a decade now). The internet is such a great place. Anyways, I hope all is well. Drop us a line sometime.

I had the same thing happen to me in the fall for a root canal. I have the WORST teeth ever and was so mad at yet another tooth gone bad. Suddenly it didn't seem so bad when I didn't have to pay for it....had to pay for crown but not root canal! Hooray for nice people!
That is awesome! Thank you for sharing such good news of generosity and good will, it is refreshing that things like that happen now a days!
Can I get his phone number? thanks.
That's awesome Jaime! Thanks for posting that. Too turn on the 10 o'clock news and the first ten stories are negative yet you will never hear of this one. Thanks!

That's an awesome story, I wish there were more people like that. We were in Utah only over the weekend to say goodbye to my in-laws and help them pack up their house. Next time we come for an actual break I will for sure call you , I would love to see you and your wee ones!
Jaime, I love your blog, and that is an awesome story! We are in the same boat with dental insurance, I'm sure we will be spending the big bucks some time in the near future!
Anna is so funny! I think we should get her and Thatcher together sometime... and our little Lukes! Yours is bigger now, but still!
We haven't talked in so long, I just wanted to say Hi! We need to get together this summer!
Hello! I was so excited when I found your blog through April's. It's good to see what old friends are up to!
